Organ Harvesting, Human Trafficking, and the Black Market

Fifty years ago, the abomination of slavery seemed like a thing of the past. But history has a way of repeating itself. Today, we find that human slavery is once again a sickening reality. At this moment, men, women and children are being trafficked and exploited all over the world: 2.4 million have been trafficked into forced labour worldwide of these, 600,000 to 800,000 are trafficked across borders each year and 12,000 children are working as slaves on cocoa plantations in West Africa. It is impossible to ever reach a consensus on the true scale of the problem but, regardless of the figures, what matters is that human trafficking is big and getting bigger.

What matters is that every number represents a human life destroyed. It is happening on every continent and in almost every country: whether the place we live is a source, destination or transit point for trafficking, none of us can claim to be wholly unaffected by this crime.

In criminal law, kidnapping is the unlawful transportation, asportation and confinement of a person against their will. It can also be defined as false imprisonment by means of abduction, both of which are separate crimes that when committed simultaneously upon the same person merge as the single crime of kidnapping.

The asportation/abduction element is typically but not necessarily conducted by means of force or fear. That is, the perpetrator may use a weapon to force the victim into a vehicle, but it is still kidnapping if the victim is enticed to enter the vehicle willingly (e.g. in the belief that it is a taxi).

Kidnapping may be done to demand for ransom in exchange for releasing the victim, or for other illegal purposes. Kidnapping can also be accompanied by bodily or psychological injury which elevates the crime to aggravated kidnapping.

A new form of this crime called is gradually rising to the fore in the united states, with its operational center in California where victims are heavily sedated by drugs before their abduction. Also more scary is the fact that a lot of the perpetrators are infact Nigerians. The victim catalog is now also beginning to include Nigerians both home and abroad.

In October of 2020, a Newport Beach pot dealer in California was sentenced to life in prison for the kidnapping and mutilation of a Southern California marijuana dispensary owner who was found in the Mojave Desert after a harrowing abduction.

Hossain Nayeri, who gained fame by staging a daring escape from the Orange County jail while awaiting trial, was sentenced to two consecutive life-without-parole prison terms for the brutal kidnapping and torture.

One thing we are not sure about is if this cartel is operated by the same Nigerian organ harvesting cartel that sells human organs as simple as other wares in the Anambra market but with the expertise of surgeons and anesthesiologists.

When families or individuals are tired of spending years on a medical waiting list, they sometimes purchase body parts – kidneys, eyes, lungs, heart, limbs and more – for transplant on the black market. This and many more are the driving forces behind the growing human traficking and organ harvesting.

It sounds like science fiction, but organ harvesting is an unfortunate fact in the criminology world of today. It is a criminal offense to traffic body parts, or perform transplants from any source not legally affiliated with a hospital or other medical facility, but legality doesn’t deter either side of these transactions.

Notably, quite a lot of illegally-trafficked body parts are harvested by any means necessary, and are gladly received, no-questions-asked, by the person willing to pay top dollar for a kidney, a heart, or a hip.

According to the UN Gift Hub, organ trafficking falls into three categories:

(1) Traffickers who trick the victim into giving up an organ for no cost.

(2) Con artists who convince victims to sell their organs, but who do not pay or who pay less than they agreed to pay

(3) Doctors who treat people for ailments which may or may not exist, and remove the organs without the victim’s knowledge

The organ trafficking trade involves a host of offenders. As the UN Gift noted, there is a recruiter who seeks out the ‘donor,’ there is a transporter of the organs, there are staff of the hospital or clinic that receives the organs, and of course the medical practitioners who perform the transplants. There are also middlemen, contractors, buyers and the banks that store the organs/tissue

Just this week a missing little girl was found alive, with her throat slit, and dumped in a soak away pit not far from her parent’s home after she went missing for days. She had ben abducted by a carpenter who lived right behind her parent’s hom

Gradually tipping it over the edge as these criminals throw cautin to the wind as the victims are now closer home as family and friends are not spared.

Timi Frank condemns appointment of Sole Administrator for NDDC

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Monday, condemned in strong terms, the appointment of a Sole Administrator (SA) for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Frank who made this assertion in a statement in Abuja, insisted that the appointment of SA to manage the affairs of the NDDC is illegal as there is no such provision in the Act establishing the Commission.

He urged the governors of States in the region and elected representatives of the people in both Chambers of the National Assembly, as well as the people of the area to outrightly reject the abnormality.

He warned that appointing SA which is against the Act establishing the Commission is “detrimental, unproductive and will end up in further destroying the already worsened situation in the NDDC.”

He vowed to challenge the appointment of the Sole Administrator in a court of competent jurisdiction should the Federal Government refuse to rescind its decision.

He noted that following the assumption of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the minister of Niger Delta Affairs, there has been an alarming rise in acts of illegalities in the Commission some of which were exposed by Committees of the National Assembly that recently probed embarrassing corrupt practices in the agency.

Frank, a consistent advocate for good governance, rule of law and equitable development of the Niger Delta region and her people, added that the already discovered cases of looting in the NDDC will get worse with the appointment of a Sole Administrator “who will ultimately be used as tool for personal gain by the cabal that facilitated his appointment and thus create ample room for more fraud, impunity and illegalities in the intervention agency.”

He urged the leaders of the Niger Delta region to reflect on the sacrifices of their leaders past, while he insisted that, “this was not what the likes of late Isaac Boro and Saro Wiwa paid the supreme price for.”

Frank said: “I want to use this medium to call upon the elders, governors and youths of the Niger Delta to reject this appointment of a stooge by Godswill Akpabio and his cohorts in the Presidency to further do their bidding in the continued impoverishment of our dear region and people.

“The reign of impunity, fraud and illegalities in the commission must not be allowed to continue.

“Why is Akpabio and his cohorts in the presidency refusing to appoint a substantive Board for the NDDC, but instead, they have moved from an Interim Management Committee to a Sole Administrator that is not known by the Act establishing the NDDC?

“If Akpabio is honest, transparent and has no skeleton or ulterior notions, why appoint a Sole Administrator from Akwa Ibom state that is against the extant Act which clearly states that the Managing Director of the NDDC must come from either Delta or Bayelsa states?”

He further warned that the appointment of a Sole Administrator was against the growth and development of the region as those behind the reprehensible development are only interested in the continued pillaging of the resources of the NDDC.

“No government since the return of democracy in Nigeria has ever stood against the development and prosperity of the people of the Niger Delta region like the regime of General Muhammadu Buhari and this, we must resist.

“The refusal to ensure that the right thing is done, will lead to protests by the good people of the Niger Delta because despite the claims of conducting a forensic audit of the NDDC, no report has been issued till date.

“This is condemnable, despicable and an outright deviation from the purpose of establishing the NDDC which is to ensure an even development of the Niger Delta region and her people. What we have today is the Niger Delta Sharing and Impoverishment Commission.”

“The NDDC is not a platform for the settlement of cronies but a commission that will help accelerate the development and growth of the Niger Delta region.

“Akpabio is only taking advantage of the people of the Niger Delta region through the Commission knowing too well that there is no President in charge of this country.

“Therefore, the needful must be done if we, genuinely, want the development and growth of the Niger Delta,” he declared.

"Africa Needs To Build More Leaders Instead Of Politicians" - Ikechukwu Nnnamdi Anyaegbudike

A social commentator, media entrepreneur, and Secretary General of the Nigeria Bloggers Forum, Ikechukwu Nnamdi Anyaegbudike has blasted African Politicians on the problem the continent of Africa face.

Mr. Ikechukwu Nnamdi Anyaegbudike who is also a foremost international education consultant said Africa has everything to stand ahead of every continent globally, both natural and human resources - but he blames leadership as Africa's greatest impediment.

"Africa has everything needed to stand above every other continent. We have the natural resources; we have the human resources too to harness these natural resources. Africa possesses way over 30% of the earths remaining resources. We have the youngest population globally; but let's begin to ask some critical questions.

We need to start grooming these young Africans towards reinventing the Africa wheels. Our problem is not the youths, our problem is how to project the youths in harnessing these resources. Our Politicians are used to policies that favours their selfish interest, they have never been interested in creating policies that'll engage the Youths in the process.

So we need to consider developing more Leaders instead of Politicians. We are still playing immature politics here in Africa. The original templates has been crafted around divide and rule. We are heading for self destruct if we do not take actions immediately.", Ikechukwu concludes.

5 Reasons you should watch HANDICAPPED The Movie

1. Breath of Fresh air
For the Last Decade, we have experienced huge development in the technical aspect of Nollywood films... Kudos to the players that keep raising the bar. However sometimes, once some producers figure that Film “A” Sold out because of a certain element ... Then expect  surge of films coming with that Element.  This makes HANDICAPPED The Movie Stand out... You can feel the Courage of the Producer and Story Teller, Roy Osuji tolling a different and unpopular path to tell a GREAT story....

2. Outstanding Narrative/Direction

When you buy a film ticket and you get the popcorn,  your journey through those dark walls with a loud system, you are expecting to be amazed and to experience a visual Journey. Let me be honest with you. HANDICAPPED The Movie is worth every kobo, cent or penny of that journey. A maker cannot be separated from His/Her work. The Writers, Seun Arowojolu and Denice Chikaodi, did a fantastic work placing the reality on Human Trafficking and Irregular Migration on the silver screen in a way we can easily grasp it. The directing... experience it yourself. There is a way to describe  Seun Arowojolu’s directorial approach... He is a fantastic Visual Storyteller to convey deep emotions... Talking about Visual storytelling that Leads us to number 3.

3. Outstanding Cinematography :
If you are not a movie buff, I will make it easy for you to grab this... Cinema is simply a means of telling a story with the Camera. Well... will you expect less from Idowu Adedapo?  the oracle behind the feature films like the wedding party, King of Boys and more!  Now Movie buffs or not get the popcorn on the side and enjoy a true cinema film.

4. Fantastic Acting

Acting? Please let me use pidgin here... Who no kill am?! All the actors with no weak link... did a fantastic work on this.... My Goodness! Let me see if i can catch up... Valerie Dish, Rotimi Salami, Amanda Oruh , Kunle Idowu aka Frank Donga, Igwe Emmanuel and Ghanaian actress Sitsofe Tsikor...  I mean all! They did a fabulous work,  at some point, I am sure you will ask yourself, was Camera filming all this?... Thumbs up to all the cast of Handicapped The Film

5. Informative:
This should have been the first, but I guess we saved the best for the last. This issue of human trafficking has been going on for years, and everyone thinks its none of their business, yet thousands of Nigerians fall victims to this... majorly because of Nigeria’s harsh economic reality. So everybody wants to check out by Hook or Crook. The Harsh reality of what happens when you decide to embark on the journey by crook is clearly painted in Handicapped The Movie. All media platforms, relevant government and non-government organisations should lend their support in any capacity possible to make this Film go viral....Who knows we might just be salvation someone needs out there.

1 The reason you should NOT.

So na my mouth you go hear say teacher mama die? Lol. On a serious note... The Producer and director need to be given a bigger grant or budget, to travel to Italy, France... Some European countries to film deeper realities about these Issues.

Producer, Roy Osuji, and Director, Seun Arowojolu... when my prophecy comes to pass, don't forget to square me my cut oo.

VIDEO: Godspower Oshodin Global Foundation and M2NET Partner To Fight Tuberculosis in Nigeria with ‘SPREAD’ Documentary

Although significant progress has been made in the fight against Tuberculosis – an infectious killer airborne disease that has been underscored as unprecedented world’s most infectious killer disease; however, a more holistic measure still needs to be taken to close in on this thief of life, that is not a respecter of any man. Against this backdrop, Godspower Oshodin Global Foundation a not-for-profit humanitarian organization and Mirror Multimedia Network, a Lagos-Nigeria based media company are pulling talents, resources and man-power together, to take a fight to the door step of this killer disease, with Nigeria as a major catalyst. Nigeria, according to World Health Organization (WHO) is said to be the far worse hit by this global epidemic in Africa. An estimate of at least 18 Nigerians are lost to TB every hour. When 47 Nigerians develop active TB, at least 7 of them are usually children. A report by WHO reveals that about 2 million people die from TB yearly and 10.4 million new cases of TB were reported in 2016, with seven countries responsible for 64% of the burden. These countries are India, Indonesia, China, Philippine, Pakistan, Nigeria and South Africa. Founder of Godspower Oshodin Global Foundation, Mr. Godspower Oshodin, in a press statement made available to news men revealed that ahead of the 2030 deadline proposition by world leaders to end Tuberculosis globally, his foundation in partnership with Mirror Multimedia Network, are stepping into the ring to join the fight against the disease that is reported to claim not less than 4,500 lives daily in Nigeria. “It has become a call to duty for us, as a collective people with an advantage of some sort to lend a hand in rescuing our brothers and sisters from the jaws of the dreaded killer disease known as Tuberculosis. To think some of us are safe is like sitting on a gun powder, because, the continuous spread of this pandemic puts all our lives in jeopardy,” he explained. Speaking further, Oshodin who is a United Nations Online Volunteer reiterated the claim by WHO that Nigeria currently ranks 7th in the world and 2nd in Africa among the 30 countries with the highest burden of TB, TB/HIV, multi drug resistant TB. “A lot of attention and funds have been placed on HIV/AIDS, but ironically, TB according to WHO has now claimed more lives than HIV/AIDS and Malaria patients. More interestingly, TB has been detected to be responsible for death of most HIV positive people.” Shedding more light on their strategy, Mr. Seunmanuel Faleye, humanitarian and media entrepreneur explained the essential role of the media in the fight, and more succinctly, he casts a spotlight on the strategy that his alliance with GOGF would be engaging in this fight. “It is regrettable and distasteful to know that numerous numbers of souls is being lost daily to Tuberculosis due to non-detection and late detection. This is largely because so many are still not aware of these epidemic. Hence, our approach to this campaign which we are commencing in November 2019, shall take two phases. “Firstly we are going to be filming a documentary titled ‘SPREAD – the tuberculosis story’. The documentary will take the narrative fiction style. We believe the viewers will connect more with this style of documentary. Our aim with this documentary is to teach Africans simple lessons, which are; ‘What are the Symptoms of Tuberculosis, What to do next once these symptoms are noticed, and more importantly is that Tuberculosis can be treated and that the treatment is free. “We will translate these documentary into Igbo, Urhobo, Hausa, Yoruba, Edo, Pidgin English, Kanuri and Tiv,” Faleye explained.
